Elon Musk has rebranded the social media platform Twitter to “X” this week. We look at the platform’s features and why they could be used by freelancers to boost their business leads and revenues.

But what we’d like to know is if we won’t be “tweeting” anymore what will be doing, “X-ing”? Take part in our poll.

Last October Musk tweeted that “buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.”

A financial service could be in the cards for X given the success Musk had in building PayPal, which was initially a startup called X.com.

What else is in store is still a mystery. This week Linda Yaccarino, Twitter/X CEO said on the platform that it is an “exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.” That’s about all we’ve got to go on.

Until more is revealed, how can freelancers make the most of X and its features now?

Creator Ads Revenue Sharing

For one, they can look into X’s creator programme and change their profile to professional. They can also get a share of Twitter/X advertising revenues. But you need some serious traffic. You must have at least 15 million impressions on your posts within the last 3 months. You’ll also need to be subscribed to Twitter Blue or Verified Organisations.

What you’ll need once you are eligible to start generating ad revs

  1. A Stripe account. We work with Stripe for payouts and are rolling out to our first batch of creators who have already signed up for Creator Subscriptions.
  2. Adhere to our Creator Subscriptions policies.

Where to access Ads Revenue Sharing

Creators will be able to apply for both Creator Subscriptions and Ads Revenue Sharing by accessing “Monetization” in settings here

Twitter Blue

The Twitter blue subscription has some useful benefits. Features include an editing function, which gives you a 1-hour window to make a limited number of changes to published Tweets. Use it to make updates, tag someone, or reorder the media you attached. Edit Tweet currently only applies to original Tweets and quote Tweets. If you’re interested in subscribing to Twitter Blue, you can do so here

Twitter/X Spaces

Twitter/X spaces allow you to share your expertise, conduct community discussions and webinars. It’s like a podcast where up to 11 people can join in on the conversation while others can listen in. The host can record and reshare the conversation. Up to 2 people can become co-hosts and speak in a Space in addition to the 11 speakers (including the primary host) at one time. Co-host status can be lost if the co-host leaves the Space. A co-host can remove their own co-host status to become a Listener again.

Expect more features to come out later this year that could help you improve your freelance business.

What should we call the former act of Tweeting?

Changing the name won’t do anything if he doesn’t change the business model, he could’ve started X from nothing, but he paid a premium, made an X of it and now thinks he can start again from A oops I mean from X
